Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc. 

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - 13.4 miles in Holladay, 8:15 pace. Stopped about 4 miles into the run to check out an open house then continued further into Holladay until we realized it was going to be way farther then anticipated. I haven't run this far in YEARS, but it is good to know that I am getting stronger despite not running much - skinning is really helping!

Good run! I am amazed at all the skiing that trail runners do, particularly Killian, but he's at least 95% man-beast. Always makes me jealous that I don't have something like this to supplement my running. I can live vicariously I suppose and learn new terms like "low angle trees."

Here's a day one, 101-level summary for you Jason...

(Let me preface by saying that I am over-simplifying and removing dozens of important variables)

In general, skiing 30-40 degree pitched wide open slopes in fresh powder snow is unbelievable fun. Its pretty much the the best thing you can imagine across the entire spectrum of sports, recreation, and overall life. But after bigger storms and during periods of higher avalanche danger, those are also the slopes where you are most likely to trigger an avalanche. So in those conditions you want to head to 20-30 degree slopes and preferably in areas with nicely spaced trees... both for the fun of skiing in and out of the trees and because they prevent big slabs from forming (but that's covered in the 102-level class).

So in summary, its better if all the snow falls out west and leaves you guys alone...

... and "low angle trees" are precisely that... and pretty darn fun when you've got a foot of fresh snow to mess around with.
